Merchandise exports rise as India diversifies trade routes and destinations

  • India's merchandise exports rose 19.6% year-on-year to $44.2 billion in July 2026, while imports grew 17.5% to $76.2 billion.
  • Exports to West Asia recovered to $5.7 billion, up 8.8% year-on-year, after shipping was rerouted through alternative ports and lines.
  • Exports to China rose 65% to $2.2 billion in July. The overall merchandise trade deficit widened to $15 billion from $11.4 billion a year earlier.
  • Services exports grew 6.4% to $35.9 billion, but services imports grew 9.5% to $18.9 billion.
